Company Overview
BeNEX GmbH (BeNEX) was founded in 2007 with the aim of continuing and expanding the expansion activities begun by Hamburger Hochbahn AG (HOCHBAHN) in rail and bus transport. For this purpose, the existing non-Hamburg transport holdings of HOCHBAHN were combined in a new holding company. INPP Public Infrastructure Germany GmbH & Co. KG (IPIG) was acquired in the founding year for a share of 49 percent. Since the beginning of July 2019, BeNEX has been 100% owned by IPIG as a subsidiary of the listed infrastructure investment company International Public Partnerships Ltd. (INPP) and is now a purely private company.
INPP is a long-term, responsible investor in 130 infrastructure projects and companies, including utilities and transport companies, schools, courts and police headquarters in the UK, Europe, Australia and North America, with an investment volume of around EUR 2.5 billion (net asset value, mid 2019). Through this strong shareholder, BeNEX not only receives the necessary funds in the form of capital contributions, but also access to the international capital markets for highly competitive project financing in a competitive LRPT market. In addition, BeNEX benefits comprehensively from the infrastructure-specific know-how of the asset manager Amber Infrastructure Ltd., who supports INPP worldwide in the management of the portfolio.
BeNEX holds shares in six established regional railway companies, which currently provide 43 million train-kilometres of traffic. With the acquired networks, this will grow to 49 million train kilometres in the future. The local rail public transport (LRPT) services are currently concentrated in northern and eastern Germany as well as Hesse and Bavaria. As a holding company, BeNEX manages and supports its regionally based operating companies NBE nordbahn Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (nordbahn), metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH (metronom), ODEG Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn GmbH (ODEG), agilis Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (agilis E), cantus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (cantus) and agilis Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (agilis V).
The operating companies of BeNEX see themselves as regionally active mobility service providers who, together with the responsible authorities, want to achieve the best possible service quality for passengers. The aim is to constantly increase the number of passengers in order to relieve the strain on the roads and to support a sustainable transport policy in line with the ambitious goals of climate and environmental policy. To this end, the operating companies operating under the umbrella of BeNEX exclusively use and optimise modern and environmentally friendly vehicles. Through convincing service in terms of cleanliness and passenger information, and above all through above-average punctuality, the companies ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. All operating companies are respected quality leaders in their respective markets. The competence bundled at BeNEX for vehicles, start of operations, circulation and shift planning, scheduling, maintenance, IT and sales supports the operational services and their permanent optimisation on site.
This structure promotes the sustainable achievement of the goal that BeNEX bears in its name: a combination of "bene" and "nexus", which means "better connection". The long-term quality promise, based on the highly recognised professional competence in the market, a long-term professional partnership with all business partners and external experts, efficient cost structures, responsible and agile local entrepreneurs as well as professional control and support from the holding company, enables BeNEX not only to win tendered transport services, but also to implement them in a sustainable manner in line with time, quality and costing in the interests of passengers, the responsible authorities and the shareholder.
